Private elementary and high schools are operated by independent organizations under charter from the Ministry of Education. They not only provide diversity but also contribute about 8.2% to the republic's capacity to cover all of Palau's children aged 6-17 (Education is compulsory for the children in this group, about 3000 year to year enrollment).
